A Sparks Builders Ltd is a Wellington construction company established by Ashley Sparks in 1982.
Ash was just 23 when he started A Sparks Builders but quickly got involved with some of Wellington's leading architects. The company has only grown in skill, reputation and trust since then.
We’ve proudly worked on a wide range of construction work in Wellington. Some of our highlights so far have been an incredible penthouse apartment upgrade - complete with Italian marble columns, reconstructing a copper dome seven levels up on a historical building in Wellington CBD and recreating an entryway for one of our much-loved local historic theatres.
What makes us unique is our utter dedication to quality and service. We are versatile, experienced and skilled. But we also care deeply about the projects we work on, and the clients we work with. Our personal touch is what makes our team stand out from the rest.

Ash Sparks
Director
Ash, a team leader and a qualified carpenter, has led all of our major Wellington projects. His ability to work well with various project teams has proved a real asset on jobs. Ash proudly showcases his company’s innovative solutions, highlighting their commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.
Robyn Sparks
Director
Robyn, the rose between the thorns, has been with ASBL for over 30+ years. Experienced and results-oriented, Robyn excels in streamlining all of our financial processes and ensuring accurate, timely transactions.
Tom Sparks
Senior Quantity Surveyor
Tom has a strong grasp of the technical and financial aspects of projects that have ranged from a High spec Power station (Battersea Power station, London) to the redevelopment of a Kainga Ora Apartment complex in central Auckland. Tom brings 10+ years of Quantity Surveying experience to the business.
John Busby
Project Foreman
John joined ASBL in 1993, John is a qualified and highly skilled builder with over 38 years’ experience in the construction industry. Known for exceptional attention to detail and excellent project management. John has worked on projects such as the Embassy Theatre Entrance Restoration where he received the Silver Award at the NZ Commercial Project Awards 2023.

Phil joined ASBL in 2009, with over 46 years in the construction industry, Phil is a highly regarded member of our leadership team. A highly organised team leader who is determined to achieve great results. Phil is known for completing projects to an exceptionally high standard with a strong commitment to health and safety.
Harris Stephen
Project Foreman
A talented carpenter, Harris has spent more than 10 years in the construction industry. At 6 foot 6, Harris is hard to miss (Has been asked multiple times to rescue cats from trees). An energetic and meticulous individual, His ‘can do’ approach and ability to get the best out of people has seen him complete all his projects on time to a high standard.
